In these troubled financial times, many of us are searching for a way to protect our assets. Investing in collectible firearms brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "investment security". According to the
Wall Street Journal, the auction houses are proving the investment value of guns "every time they hold a sale," said gun collector and author R.L. Wilson, who has written books about famed gun makers Colt, Winchester and others. Check out the sale prices of some of these recent auction items:

$322,000 | This gun was taken from the body of Dalton Gang member Bob Dalton in 1892; it sold in September.

$276,000 | This engraved gun, presented by gunmaker Samuel Colt to a colleague, sold at Rock Island Auction in September.

$207,000 | Colt gave this Model 1902 pistol to Teddy Roosevelt; it carries his initials in gold.
